Maybe you’re a student reluctantly going back to school this month, groan. Or maybe you’re a parent who is secretly jumping up and down that they’ll finally have the house back to themselves, after what seems like an eternity of Summer Break. Either way, we’ve compiled the below list geared towards those who love games, and want to get their fill of fun throughout August.

Puzzled on what to do in August?
Sherlock and Watson outside their famous abode.

Entertainment Enigma Of The Month: Sherlock

If you didn’t catch Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sherlock the first time he graced our screens in August of 2010, it’s time to open up your mind palace, and welcome in this incredible version of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s famous detective. Cumberbatch undoubtedly plays the role extremely well, coming across both entertaining, and enigmatic. We are big Sherlock fans at The Escape Effect, after all, we have our version you can experience yourself!

Perplexing Puzzler Of The Month: Clue

Even aliens from other planets have heard of Clue, so if you haven’t played it before, then you’ve been living under the biggest rock in the universe. A couple of years ago on this month, the murder mystery classic was recreated digitally, but in my opinion, nothing beats the original. Personally I always choose to play as Colonel Mustard, and I have a very particular technique that I use to deduce whodunnit, but that’s a secret I’ll never tell.

Gaming Get-Together Of The Month: Highland Games

It’s not what you might first imagine when you think of a gaming get-together this month, but the Scottish Highland Games attracts around 3,500 competitors, and an impressive 23,000 spectators, from all around the world. So get kitted out in a kilt, and get into the action with the hammer throw, caber toss, and keg toss! And if you fancy a toot on a bagpipe but don’t want to travel to Scotland, Floridians can experience their own version in Winter Springs every January!

Obscure Occasion Of The Month: International Lottery Day

If you are someone who plays the lottery, hoping for that life-changing win, you’ll know the thrill and anticipation which comes with watching for your numbers to come up. The lottery has a fascinating history, with one of the earliest recorded examples being traced back to 1569, during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I of England! If you’re going to take your chances this International Lottery Day, I hope Lady Luck is on your side!

Mystery Merchandise Of The Month: Bumper Stickers

If you’ve ever rolled your eyes at one of those bumper stickers bragging about the academic abilities of a stranger’s kids, here’s a topical version for escape room enthusiasts. If that isn’t quite your style, try raising a few eyebrows with one that boldly reads, ‘I pay money to get locked in rooms’. These are just a couple of examples, of the 6 playful and punny designs you’ll find in the bumper sticker mega pack from Escapography. It’s available to buy at The Escape Effect, both online, or in person at our storefront.
