If you’re in Orlando, like us, you’re probably starting to look for some indoor air-conditioned activities, as the weather here starts to heat up! Whether you are seeking out some at-home entertainment, or an in-person experience, we have something in the list below to add a spark to your summer.
Puzzled on what to do in July?
Entertainment Enigma Of The Month: Taskmaster
British comedy game show, Taskmaster, first aired in July 2015, and is a must-watch for puzzle appreciators. Each episodes sees 5 (sort of) famous faces, opening a series of envelopes that each contain a set of unusual instructions. The contestants often have varying degrees of success, with some uncovering clues that aid in the completion of the task, and others spectacularly failing. Either way, escape room fans will likely find themselves commenting on how they would have done it better. I recommend seasons 5 and 7 as my personal favorite escapades.
Perplexing Puzzler Of The Month: Patchwork Americana Edition
The ever popular Patchwork poses the question: ‘How many versions of one game do you really need?’ If your Kallax shelf already proudly displays Valentine’s, Halloween, and Christmas editions, why not add the Americana one into the mix ready for July 4th?! Yes it’s essentially exactly the same game, but when you open the box an eagle soars through the sky, red white and blue confetti rains down, and the Star Spangled-Banner plays triumphantly. Maybe.
Gaming Get-Together Of The Month: Classic Game Fest
Retro game fans rejoice! The Classic Game Fest convention is the most incredible event for all fans of 8-bit. There are over 200 vendors featuring game repairs, artists, tournaments, guest speakers, and of course the chance to play all these incredible games for yourselves. So if you’re a connoisseur of classics such as The Legend of Zelda, Mortal Kombat, Super Smash Bros. 64, and Super Mario Kart, this one is for you.
Orlando Offering Of The Month: Dude Perfect
Dude Perfect first found fame on Youtube, and became known for their comedic challenges and astonishing trick shots. This July, their world tour stops by the Kia Center in Orlando, for one day only on July 17th. They’ll take to the stage to showcase their skills, in this action-packed experience, featuring live stunts that combine both their creativity and charisma.
Escape Effect Exclusive Of The Month: Independence Day
Full after a cookout, and time to fill before the fireworks? Join us at The Escape Effect this 4th of July, and commemorate the founding of America by having a little fun. We have a whole land of opportunity, with 4 incredible games for you to choose from. Sparks are sure to be flying as you and your team count down to freedom! We guarantee, it’ll be a blast!
Obscure Occasion Of The Month: Wife Carrying Race
I could have played it safe and picked National Video Games Day for the obscure occasion this month, which frankly does seem more appropriate for a game-centric company. However, as an aficionado of the weird and wonderful, I have chosen to present the Wife Carrying Race instead. Yes, it’s exactly what it sounds like. It’s worth noting that the official rules, (yes of course there are official rules) state participants do not need to be married in order to compete, and that a wide variety of carrying techniques are acceptable.
Mystery Merchandise Of The Month: Escape Room Passport Log Book
If you’ve run out of room counting on your fingers and toes how many escape rooms you’ve played, it’s time to start writing them down. Escapography present the perfect solution for enthusiasts who want to note their escapades, the Escape Room Passport Log Book. This pocket-sized pal is your tool for noting down every game you’ve played, with a series of helpful prompts and checkboxes. There’s also a map and stickers so you can mark exactly where you’ve been! It’s the ideal handy dandy notebook to take on your travels this summer.
