Escape rooms are so much fun! The detailed sets, complex puzzles, and the fun secrets are all a blast to uncover. It’s no wonder these puzzle games have become so popular. You can find escape rooms all over the country. The only downside to them is that you can only play them once…
Or can you?
A lot of people don’t think you can replay an escape room. After all, once you beat the game, there’s nothing left to find, right? That’s not quite true. A lot goes into making an escape room and, even if you think you saw everything, there’s always something new to discover. Let’s take a look at the fun you can have fun replaying escape rooms.
Why replay an escape room?
If you’ve already beaten the escape room, why would you want to replay it? There are a few reasons you might want to tackle the same game for a second (or third) time.
Speedrun Challenge
Put your memory and puzzle-solving skills to the ultimate speed test. How quickly can you get through the escape room a second time? Your team may have beaten the game already, but that doesn’t mean the challenge is over. Escape rooms are a race against the clock and, much like in video games, you can always try your hand at speedrunning. Secure your team’s place on the leaderboard in the ultimate test of memory and puzzle-solving skill!
All of The Escape Effect’s escape rooms make for great speedrunning challenges, but At Odds With The Gods might be the best if you want a challenge. Even if you remember all of the puzzles, the non-linear game flow and volume of puzzles makes it the perfect escape room for puzzle enthusiasts. How fast can you conquer the challenges of the ancient Greek gods?
Introduce a new group to escape rooms
You might want to replay an escape room to give a new team the chance to try the hobby. Some people don’t want to venture blindly into the unknown. Luckily for them, you’re practically an escape room pro. You can help them choose which game to play and take them to your favorite escape room venue. When introducing first-timers to escape rooms, the fact that you’re familiar with the game can be a big help! Your foreknowledge will keep them from getting stuck on a puzzle and frustrated. Instead of trying to figure out what to do, your new team can relax and enjoy the game.
If you want to replay an escape room to introduce the game to first-timers, Sherlock Studies is a great option. The linear puzzles are easy to follow, but your teammates will still need to read through everything to solve the mystery. Fright Before Your Eyes is another option, especially if your new group likes dark and spooky themes. It’s non-linear, but the new players will still need to search through everything to find the answers. In either game, you’ll be right there to help them if they start to get a little lost. And, of course, our hosts will be happy to offer any additional hints!
See what was hiding on the other side
There’s another important reason why you may want to replay an escape room. Sometimes, you just don’t get to see or do everything you might want to. Some games are set up in such a way that only half of the group can take on certain puzzles.
When you’re split up like that, even after reuniting, you don’t get the same type of experience. Your friends solved puzzles that you never got to see, and you solved many that they missed out on. In times like these, who wouldn’t want to play the game again?
A Knight To Escape is a great example of a split game. This two-hour experience keeps both sides separated for most of the game. Half of the team goes into the dungeon, while the other half starts the game in the courtyard. After reuniting, the team will only be together for a short while before the end. While your team will pass information back and forth throughout the game, it’s not the same as seeing for yourself the types of puzzles that they’re working on.
If you want to replay an escape room, try breaking out of the castle from the side that you didn’t get to see on your first playthrough. The challenges will feel fresh and, by the time your team reunites, you won’t even mind that you’ve already reached the ending once before. In fact, it might make it even more satisfying!
Gain a new appreciation for the games
When you replay an escape room, you’ll probably remember most of what you did before. The locations of clues are still in your head, even if you forgot the exact combinations to various locks. This familiarity means that you don’t need to rush through the game as quickly as possible. You can slow down a little and take a closer look at the finer details.
The designers put a lot of work into every aspect of the game, and we’re not just talking about the basic set design. Of course, we take pride in the way our games are built. Creating realistic settings allows players to immerse themselves in the story. However, there’s another layer to the design.
If you replay an escape room, you might notice little Easter eggs that you missed before. We like to hide fun little details in various places, where even astute observers might not notice them at first. Secret messages and references to other games might be hidden in the room. If you’re lucky, you may even find a special surprise!
